![]() ![]() Linux distros provide decently recent version of OSG, which means, flightgear in distro is currently broken by this. the PPA does not and neither do most of us building our own binaries. for now the main project uses an older version of OSG with the breaking commit reverted. none of the devs have had the time to refactor the way FG handles OSGText so here we are. this problem has been around since i came to the project 4 or so years back. FG simply hasn't kept up with all the changes in OSG. OSG changed the way that it does the colors and the old OpenGL style is no longer used by OSG. The problem looks to be the known OSGText coloration problem seen with newer versions of OSG. ![]() The text issue has existed with OSG 3.6 for many years, without anyone stepping up to fix it. There’s at least one CDU impl where each line is two text items. Some cockpits have 50 of these (each MCP window, each radio numerical field, etc, etc). The problem is not us keeping 3.4.x around : it would be nice to switch to 3.6 everywhere, but we support both today. It’s a fairly large number of aircraft: the text animation has been around for a long time, prior to Canvas for example. ![]() The patch we’re applying is to restore things to how they looked before, but it was still broken, just less obviously. So there is no upstream fix possible: we have to change what we’re doing on our side, but that will risk some aircraft compat issues. But the fact that osgtext didn’t work correctly with Effects has always been there. Because osgtext always uses a shader (now), and shaders cannot be combined, we have to find a smarter way to do that. Īnother way to describe the bug is ‘make text animations work correctly with the Effects framework’. The OSGText animation ( $FG_ROOT/Docs/ ) doesn't play nice with shaders. This seems to happen on some very old drivers. The texture or framebuffer used for the canvas isn't working. The white square is the popup message / tooltip, shown via the Canvas. Testing first iteration of patches (blocking WS 3.0 and adoption of OSG 3.6) Make text animations work correctly with the Effects framework There may be additional information on the talk page. Please help improve this article by updating it. This article or section contains out-of-date information Please report back via the developers mailing list and/or the issue tracker. If someone who is more used to using osgText can report if the fix was successful and the text looks exactly the same as before, it would be greatly appreciated. This might not be the case with the core profile, but has got a few tricks which should force our shaders to prevail over OSG's.Īnyway, Fernando tested it and it looks fine to him. He thought it would conflict with OSG internal shaders, but it didn't. ApparentlyĪssigning an Effect to the geode containing the osgText was enough to get it working. ![]() However, that of course relies on fixing the osgText issue įernando has now pushed two commits ( SimGear commit 64e4adf0b95f12f2710d40550372b197423b3874 and FGData commit 49fa42faac6e0a1a89321cea4db3670a63662a58) that should hopefully fix the white osgText issue under OSG 3.6. We should set ourselves a goal of delivering a full world build of WS30 via Terrasync for a preview release in the autumn of 2021. The reason being as of 05/2021, we're now at the stage where the WS30 underlying scenery is close to "complete" - there don't seem to be any missing scenery features - and any issues remaining are ones that we can address at runtime (for example trees on roads). Note The project " World Scenery 3.0 roadmap" is currently blocked by remaining OSGText Issues: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Ghost of Tsushima is in development for PS4 and doesn’t have a release date. Given how the demonstration at E3 2018 was just a side quest, we’re definitely interested in how the rest of the world shakes out. We’re hoping this means that there will be a number of sights and sounds to explore, perhaps different activities and points of interest to scope out. ![]() When you walk from one end of Tsushima island to the other you’re going to feel like it was epic.” “But the real measure of a game world from my point of view isn’t how big it is, how many square kilometers it is, rather how long it takes you to walk across it. A 1:1 scale would have made the map a whopping 273.6 mile², which actually wouldn’t have. This will be more of a sort of inside-baseball answer: it’s easy to make the game too big. It’s an impressive size, certainly, though substantially smaller than the actual Tsushima archipelago. You have a set of expectations about how big the world is, and those will be met. Zimmerman responded, “We can’t talk about numbers. GamingBolt had a chance to speak to Sucker Punch co-studio head Chris Zimmerman about the overall size and scale of Tsushima. Set in 1274 during the Mongol invasion of Japan, the island is the setting of beauty and strife alike. The insane level of detail in RDR2 just puts it a cut above the rest. Really solid game, but, does not have nearly the level of minute detail that Red Dead Redemption: 2 possesses. The world of Tsushima stands out the most. I know I am a bit late to this, however, I believe Ghost of Tsushima is more on the level of God of War. Needless to say, it immediately captivated us with its art direction, cinematography and stellar production values. Even at this year’s E3 2018, the relatively new property had a chance to stand next to The Last of Us: Part 2, Death Stranding and Spider-Man. Ghost of Tsushima: How Big Is The Map While the real island is a sizeable 274 square mile, this digital version is considerably smaller. Of the many first party titles that Sony Interactive Entertainment has been promoting, Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima stands out. How exactly are you calculating Apple's margin on macOS and iOS? How are you attributing the sales price hardware to macOS/iOS, hardware, apps, tools and services, iWork, Photos, iMovie? > I was talking about profits Microsoft exclusively makes from selling the $99/$139 Windows licenses to consumer, not the profits of Microsoft entirely. So what to make of the 99¢ codec charge? My guess is lawyers: one could make a reasonable argument that there is no material difference between bundling HEVC with Windows and making it available as a free download for all Windows users. Taking all these things into account, it would actually surprise me to learn that Microsoft loses money on consumer Windows.Īs for "serious DRM", are you certain this would actually increase Windows sales enough to offset lost revenue (Office, Game Pass, search advertising, etc.) from consumers who would otherwise be running pirated Windows? Moreover, I believe Microsoft no longer charges for consumer Windows upgrades because they save more money by supporting fewer distinct versions of Windows (with security patches and compatibility with other Microsoft products sold to consumers like Office and games) than they previously made on consumer version upgrades.įinally, the overwhelming majority of consumer Windows license sales are to OEMs bundling Windows with new PCs, and these licenses offload the burden of frontline technical support on the PC vendor. Windows Enterprise is a superset of consumer Windows, so, given the existence of the former, the marginal development cost of consumer Windows is limited to the comparatively modest set of Windows features that few enterprise users care about - many of which are directly attributable to gaming, which, like Office, is another solid Microsoft revenue stream - plus any additional costs associated with producing and distributing multiple editions of Windows with different feature subsets. If Microsoft was actually making a profit on selling Windows licenses to consumers, they would have some serious DRM in place that would rival that of video-games, but the way I see it, it's not making them any money, which is why they don't bother enforcing even the most basic kinds of DRM, which in turn, explains to me why they penny pinch the $0.99. I activated my Windows 11 Pro copy with some CD key from Windows 7 I found online and it activated just fine. In fact, you don't even have to pay for Windows (legal gray area). ![]() I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the consumer $99/$139 price points are actually loosing Microsoft money, similar how consoles are doing, but Microsoft is subsidizing it from the enterprise profits, to maintain the Windows market share monopoly, otherwise consumers would just switch to Linux if they had to pay more than a hundo for Windows. Keep in mind that Windows 95 retail box would cost consumers $209($409 in today's money), and you imagine that Microsoft is now making a huge profit on selling Windows to consumers today at 25% the original price with the much higher complexity and development costs of today's software? ![]() package plus pay for support, but I can't imagine they make much money selling just an OS and 10 years worth of development for only $99/$139 to consumers who don't buy anything else out of the Microsoft ecosystem.
